Did Trump Just Again Claim He Was at Ground Zero
Every bit the near reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News App offers the following data published past DailyMail:
A new pair of studies on the coronavirus outbreak claim that the pandemic may have resulted from live animals sold at a Chinese moisture market in Wuhan and not at the nearby Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The study, which has non been peer reviewed or published yet, argues that there is no support for the theory that COVID escaped from the Wuhan lab, despite growing calls for the theory to be probed subsequently People's republic of china obstructed efforts to uncover the origins of the killer pathogen
The article goes on to state the following:
The co-author of both studies is Michael Worobey, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Arizona, who says the evidence is articulate.
In comments to The New York Times, Worobey said, "When you lot look at all of the evidence together, it's an extraordinarily articulate picture that the pandemic started at the Huanan market."
In a series of Twitter posts, Worobey explained his findings.

We used the maps in the WHO mission's report on the origin of SARS-CoV-two to excerpt latitude and longitude for virtually of the known COVID-19 cases from Wuhan with symptom onset in December 2019. pic.twitter.com/8u5OSnd7xk

And they allowed us to await at the density of cases in Wuhan early on in the pandemic. Fifty-fifty though there is some noise in the location data, Huanan marketplace sits correct in the highest density region. pic.twitter.com/T8VBhvzkjR

Striking contrast with cases from later in the epidemic, when the virus was more widespread in Wuhan. In early 2020, y'all see cases all through fundamental Wuhan, on both sides of the Yangtze. motion-picture show.twitter.com/vfMT1Q0NhW

Surprisingly, uses cases for which nosotros could link a location and genome sequence – and this is one of *the* well-nigh important findings in this paper – we found that so-called lineage A viruses (the ones that had not been found at the market)….
— Michael Worobey (@MichaelWorobey) February 26, 2022
This strongly suggests that BOTH lineage B and lineage A arose at the Huanan market and began spreading into the Wuhan residential community from there. More on that in a bit.

…from December 2019 upward until mid February of 2020. Almost 1/iii are lineage A and 2/3 lineage B. We find that the were very likely at to the lowest degree *two* origins SARS-CoV-2 – i for lineage A and ane for lineage B. The patterns in the phylogeny are the giveaway.

Combining the findings of the two papers, we thus ended that these ii cross-species manual events happened at the Huanan market (more on what we learned about within the market in a chip).
And we suspected that it was considering A happened perhaps a week or ii….

Well, let me come to the "And then…" part afterwards. Dorsum to within the market.
(but information technology has to do with this preprint posted yesterday:https://t.co/lC0zPLseYF)

Earthworks deeper, nosotros found a report from the China CDC, who had done testing of environmental samples (swabs of surfaces) in the market, that provided details missing in the WHO report. Like, if a stall was "positive", how many samples were positive in that location…

While at that place are caveats nosotros mention in the preprint (please read information technology) and neither this preprint nor the other have been published post peer review, the location of stalls selling live mammals was highly predictive of where environmental positives were located. pic.twitter.com/5M1VCPEmXD

It happened to be a stall that one of us, @edwardcholmes, had visited 5 years earlier the pandemic, and where he had taken this photograph of a raccoon canis familiaris. movie.twitter.com/19ltUkCI1W

"Together, these analyses provide dispositive testify for the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 via the live wildlife trade and identify the Huanan market as the unambiguous epicenter of the COVID-nineteen pandemic." pic.twitter.com/rjgNPyOu3q

We end Paper i with this:
"Note added in proof: A recent preprint from Gao et al. (50) confirms the actuality of the CCDC study and reported the presence of the 'A' lineage of SARS-CoV-2 from an ecology sample at the Huanan market, consistent with a dissever…— Michael Worobey (@MichaelWorobey) February 26, 2022
